General Information:
Toon Ken Lodge is located in the Province of Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. The lodge is located on the upper section of the river, near the border with Chile. The newest of the Río Grande lodges, Toon Ken caters to only six anglers on the middle and upper reaches of the Río Grande. Ideally sited on a south bluff over the Río Grande, the lodge’s broad windows allow anglers to see sea trout roll and show as they make their way up river.
Modern conveniences assure comfort and a fine staff see to every detail. When not watching fish, drift a dry fly over sea run trout that average better than 12 pounds, or find the Southern Cross in a sea of stars each night.
The Fishing:
Toon Ken fishes for Sea-Run Brown Trout on 20 km of the Rio Grande, averaging 10 lbs in size and running up to 30 lbs. The lodge has private access to both banks of the Rio Grande. The river offers easy wading on fine gravel bottom. Traditional fly fishing gear and floating lines are the rule.
Toon Ken is a strictly catch and release fishery. Guides are equipped with nets and will assist guests in weighing and releasing fish without damaging them. Our highly rated professional guides – both international and Argentine – are able to give casting tuition with single and double handed rods (Spey casting).
The recommended tackle for Toon Ken includes Single-handed (7-9wt, 9 to 10
ft) & double handed rods (9-11wt, 13 to 15 ft). Lines: floating, sink tips or heavy sinks depending on water conditions Flies: Atlantic Salmon Traditional flies, Trout streamers, bomber type dry flies, nymphs for the main river.
