General Information:

The area between Itatí and Itaibaté in the province of Corrientes on the Paraná River is one of the few destinations in the Argentine Northeast where the large dorado can still be fly fished. The natural features of Paraná River in this area, with its clear and turbulent waters, many islands and wide rock pools, turn this spot into the ideal destination to find these amazing predators.

The Fishing:

The dorado caught in Itatí average between 5 and 10 pounds. However, 15 to 25-pounders are not uncommon.  There is also the Pacú, a species similar to the saltwater Permit, which weighs from 8 to 12 pounds. Another species found in the area is the Pira Pitá (called "salmon" by local people). These can reach 15 pounds, and are good fighters and jumpers.  Both of these last two are also extremely combative and can be caught on the dry fly.

Programme:

To access the Ranch, you can fly from Buenos Aires to Corrientes or to Resistencia, where you will be met and transferred to the Lodge (1½ hours).  The normal fishing package is from 3 to 6 days.  Well qualified fishing guides with an extensive knowledge of the river will take you by boat to fish the prime spots on the river.

The daily schedule normally commences with an early breakfast at around 5.30 am. Depending on the fishing spot picked by the guide that day, the anglers are taken to fish the channels close to the Ranch or to Repeski, famous for the heavy concentration of fish, 15 to 30 minutes away.  Because of the high temperatures at midday, you usually return to the Ranch for lunch, and a nap or relaxation beside the swimming pool. You will return to the river at around 3.30pm to fish until sunset.

Seasons:

The fishing season runs from January through June, and from mid August through to November 1st.

Accommodation:

Accommodation is provided at a 25,000 acre Ranch with excellent facilities. There are three spacious and comfortable double rooms, with air conditioning and private bathroom. The ranch offers fine areas for relaxation – a dining room, swimming pool – and provides top-quality local food. The ranch is also known for its highly personal, friendly service.

Rates – 2009/10:

Based on a 3½ day fishing programme and 4 nights, the package rate is US$2,130/person

Included: 3½ days fishing with professional guide and shared boat; 4 nights accommodation, double occupancy; Full board including wines and beers; Transfers between Lodge and domestic airport (Corrientes or Resistencia)

Conditions:

A deposit of 50% confirms a reservation.  The balance is payable 60 days before the commencement of the programme.
